Eye makeup is an indispensable tool in most women’s beauty arsenal. Eye liner, mascara and eye shadow come in just about every color of the rainbow to suit every skin tone and complexion. It’s important to use eye makeup safety tips when applying eye makeup to keep eyes healthy and beautiful.

Below are some instructions for you to follow to keep your Make-up clean and safe:

  • Step 1: Keep eye makeup in a cool, dry place. If you store makeup away from extreme temperatures or excess moisture it will help retain the integrity and pigments of the makeup. Store eye makeup in closed containers to keep bacteria and germs out of the mix.
  • Step 2: Replace eye makeup applicators every 6 months. Use single-use applicators like sponges and cotton swabs one time only and then discard them. Replace wands and brushes after you’ve used them for 6 months. Dirt and bacteria build up on these tools with daily use and could be harmful to your eyes, so swap them out for new ones regularly.
  • Step 3: Use your own makeup. Never share eye makeup or makeup applicators with others. Using someone’s makeup can cause cross contamination and transmit germs and bacteria, which can result in painful eye infections.
  • Step 4: Buy new eye makeup regularly. Replace your eye makeup at least once a year, if not every 6 months. Bacteria and dirt accumulate in eye makeup no matter how carefully you store it, so it’s best to change it up regularly. Replace your eye makeup in the spring and fall so you can stock up on the hot new colors for the seasons.
  • Step 5: Remove eye makeup before bed. Sleeping in your eye makeup allows dirt, bacteria and oil to accumulate in your eye. It can clog the pores of your eyelids, causing inflammation or infection. Use a gentle eye makeup remover and cleanser every night and wash your eyes and face thoroughly.

Recently while travelling daily on the underground in London, I have noticed several ladies and young women applying their Make-up during the journey. And when I glanced at their Make-up Brushes, they look so dirty and full of old make up traces, that made my stomach turned. Straight away I thought to myself: “Here comes bacteria and they are going on this lady’s face. And tomorrow acne and more probably skin problems will follow”.

Therefore, I like to suggest to any one of you who did or still apply their morning Make Up during their journey to work either on the train or underground, please organise your morning well by getting up 15 minutes earlier and apply your Make Up at home, with clean Make Up Brushes and Tools. Make-up brushes can harbor lots of dirt and bacteria, but frequent washing of your makeup brushes can keep them – and your face – clean and healthy.

Below are some tips and pointers on how to keep your makeup brushes, sponges and applicators clean.

  • Step 1: Run the bristles of the makeup brush, sponges and applicators under warm running water.
  • Step 2: Apply a small amount of shampoo or a liquid soap to bristles, sponges and applicators and work into a light lather.
  • Step 3: Rinse them thoroughly under running water. You will notice that the water leaving them is tinted from old make-up.
  • Step 4: Continue rinsing until no color leaves the brushes, sponges and applicators.
  • Step 5: Allow it to air-dry.

Cellulite is notoriously difficult to treat, with many treatments merely producing a temporarily reduction. However the need to regular course of treatments as well as maintenance treatments can reduce the problem considerably so the persons who suffer from cellulite can benefit a lot.

Therefore the treatments on the market for Cellulite are:

  • Danné Body Sculpting Treatment - This treatment reduces the cellulite using the osmosis of the skin and the change of heat in the skin from cold to heat to use up the fatty deposits to regulate its own temperature and to enhance the breakdown of the fat. It increases the function of the body’s lymphatic system to reduce the toxins and waste.
  • G5 – Gyratory Massage - G5 is a name known internationally for deep tissue massage and cosmetic benefits for those wanting to improve the contour of the skin. The G5 machine has a variety of applicator heads, which when applied gyrate and vibrate providing a variety of different massage techniques.  It improves circulation aiding lymphatic flow and thus improves the appearance of cellulite and breaks down the adipose tissue and stubborn fatty deposits. It is good for thighs, hips and buttocks. It also exfoliates the skin leaving it silky and smooth.
  • Lymphatic Drainage Massage - Manual manipulation of the lymphatic ducts consists of gentle, rhythmic massaging of the skin to stimulate the flow of lymph and its return to the blood circulation system. In the blood’s passage through the kidneys, the excess fluid is filtered out and eliminated from the body through urination. The treatment is very gentle and a typical session will involve drainage of the neck, trunk, and involved extremity (in that order), lasting approximately 40 to 60 minutes.
  • Aromatherapy Massage - Aromatherapy is the treatment or prevention of disease by use of essential oils. Two basic mechanisms are offered to explain the purported effects. One is the influence of aroma on the brain, especially the limbic system through the olfactory system. The other is the direct pharmacological effects of the essential oils. Using the appropriate essential oils with the proper manipulation, the massage can be targeted to work on the affected areas. Treatment can be from 60 -90 minutes.
  • Low Level Laser Therapy - this therapy can be used to reduce Cellulite.
  • Mesotherapy (from Greek mesos, “middle”, and therapy from Greek therapeia, “to treat medically”) – This  is a non-surgical cosmetic medicinetreatment. Mesotherapy employs multiple injections of pharmaceutical and homeopathic medications, plant extracts, vitamins, and other ingredients into the subcutaneous fat. Mesotherapy injections allegedly target adipose fat cells, apparently by inducing lipolysis, rupture and cell death among adipocytes.

Cellulite is the abnormal storage of fat and toxins in the fat cells (adipocytes) under the skin. It is mainly caused by the increase of the fat deposits around the buttocks and thighs and the skin’s ageing process, which causes the collagen layers to become thinner. An imbalance between fat production (lipogenesis) and fat breakdown (lipolysis) within the cells leads to the formation of large fat cells that bulge towards the surface of the skin, giving the skin the “dimpling” characteristic of cellulite, sometimes called “orange peel” or “cottage cheese”. For some people, it is only visible when they tense or put pressure on the areas and for others it is visible all the time.

It is estimated that 85% of women suffer from cellulite. The condition mainly occurs on the buttock and thigh area but can affect all areas of the body. Although the majority of women have some form of cellulite, regardless of whether they are young or old, fat or thin, it is rarely seen in men. Doctors believe this is because one of the causes of cellulite is high levels of female hormones oestrogen. Many postnatal women or women on birth control develop cellulite because the body’s waste system can’t get rid of the enormous flow of oestrogen in the body.

What are the causes of Cellulite?

  • Genetics & Heredity factors - Genes highly determine someone’s chance of developing cellulite.
  • Not drinking enough water - Drinking lots of water will help to flush toxins out of the body. Since cellulite is a mixture of fat, water, and toxic wastes that the body has failed to eliminate, drinking plenty of water can help to diminish cellulite.
  • Bad Diet - a poor diet consisting of alcohol, processed foods, and caffeine contributes to cellulite since the toxins they produce get trapped in fatty tissue. Crash diets increase the risk of cellulite because the body thinks it is starving. It attempts to consume  saturated fats which helps build cellulite. Unfortunately these fats block the arteries and get trapped in tissues as well. preventing sufficient waste  and toxin
  • Smoking - Smoking promotes cellulite by damaging the connective tissue in the body. This causes the dimpled effect in the cellulite.
  • Medication – Diet Pills, Sleeping pills and diuretics all lead to cellulite. Birth control also increases cellulite formation because of its tendency to produce high levels of oestrogen. It also leads to water retention, which inhibits the body from flushing the system of toxins, leading to the formation of cellulite.
  • Lack of exercise - The results of a sedentary lifestyle, poor circulation and muscle tone, can cause cellulite development. Lack of exercise hardens the connective tissue in the skin which causes dimples.

A foundation for all seasons; DMK extends skin functionality concept into make up.

Makeup can be a catch twenty-two for acne sufferers. You want to cover up, but makeup seems to make the skin worse. Traditionally known for their paramedical skin treatments, skin care company DMK has launched a range of makeup that is specifically targeted to skin problems.

Recently in Sydney to launch the new range, DMK founder Dr Danné Montague-King says that the new range completes his holistic skin concept. “I wanted something that would not interfere with our paramedical skin treatments.” “It came out of the need for a high functionality makeup. People were aware that makeup clogged the skin,” Dr King explained during his visit.

He claims that it will be “the best foundation ever made.” With an advisory team that includes cosmetic industry icons and Hollywood makeup artists, he has a good chance. Located in the highly competitive location of Hollywood – California, DMK is used to dealing with demanding customers. “We have a huge number of celebrities coming into our Beverly Hills clinic. Their biggest fear is high definition photography.”

Starting with a silicon base, Danné began experimenting with glazes that flowed over lines and wrinkles. He wanted something that could not only be used by existing DMK clients, but also makeup industry professionals. The result is a complete range of foundations, eye shadows and other makeup that can be used in conjunction with the existing DMK concept.

The launch will complete a big year for the skin company that is now distributed into over 30 countries around the world. DMK are in the process of launching their brand new acne correctives range as well as the make up. There doesn’t seem to be any doubt about which is his pet favourite. “I would have been a makeup artist if I wasn’t a scientist,” he muses wistfully. Lucky for DMK clients, he can now say that he is both.

When DMK founder Dr Danné Montague-King joined forces with renowned cosmetics formulator and make up artist Tommy Parsons to develop a new make up range, Dr King wanted to created formulations that not only looked great, but allowed skincare products to continue working underneath at the same time.

Combining their passion, expertise and shared vision to never compromise on quality, DMK have achieved that goal, successfully extending their unique, holistic skin concept into make up. The benefits of their hard work, research and innovation are now here for you to enjoy.
