Alkaline Wash Treatment
Q. What is Alkaline & how does it work?
A. Alkaline Wash is an Alkaline Powder, which is mixed into a paste and applied to the skin for approximately 3-4 minutes. The treatment works by taking the hair to a high alkaline level. This will dissolve the hair, part of the underlying follicle and is totally pain free. After the first treatment the hair will grow back at its normal rate, but as treatments progress the regrowth rate will become slower and slower usually resulting in permanent loss over a period of time.
Q. How many treatments will I need before the hair is permanently removed?
A. Due to everybody’s physiology being unique, the therapist cannot guarantee how many treatments are needed or necessary, as permanent removal is dependent on many things i.e. how the hair was previously treated how long it has been there, the reasons for the hair growth etc. Some clients report a reduction in hair growth after just one treatment; however there’s no guarantee as every client’s skin is different. The treatment consists of a paste, which is applied to the hair, left to work for a few minutes and then removed. This skin is then neutralised to help return it to its normal PH level.
Q. How long does the treatment take?
A. The treatment usually takes approximately 30 minutes to an hour depending on the areas treated.
Q. Why do I need a patch test prior to treatment?
A. The patch test is usually carried out on the area to be treated and ensures that your skin is suitable for the alkaline treatment.
Q. Is Alkaline Wash Treatment bad for my skin?
A. No. Alkaline Wash treatment is used in many of our skin revision and is not bad for the skin. We always finish the treatment with the appropriate products to restore optimal skin health.
Q. Will my hair grow back thicker or darker?
A. It is physically impossible for your hair to grow back thicker or darker as the Alkaline Wash weakens and eventually reduces the hair growth.
Q. Can I wear make up?
A. You can wear makeup from 8 hours after an Alkaline Wash treatment and if you can wait for 24 hours, it only helps your skin to settle before the make up application. And now with the NEW DMK Cosmetics Range of Foundations & Correctors, you can wear this make up straight after any Danne Treatment even the most advanced one like Alkaline Wash and the revision programme.
Q. Are there any side effects?
A. The treatment is totally pain free; however in some cases the area can appear red and warm. This is normal and will subside in a short period of time. You will need to follow religiously the after care advice given to you by the Danné Therapists to care after your skin.
Q. Which areas of my face and body can be treated?
A. Any areas of the face and the body can be treated provided the hair type is suitable.
Q.I have both coarse and fine growth, can I still have treatment?
A. Yes. Although the coarse dark hair will need to be treated with Electrolysis, while the fine downy hair can be treated with Alkaline Wash. We recommend that you begin with Alkaline wash treatment; the coarse hairs that are not removed can be treated with Electrolysis a few days later.
Q. How often should I have treatment?
A. When you initially start, you will have the treatment as often as you would wax the area, for example 4 weeks time. As the hair growth weakens, the hair is reduced and your treatments will become further and further apart. These treatments are progressive – there is no one quick fix treatment that gets rid of hair permanently.
Q. What are the benefits of having Alkaline Wash Treatment?
A. Alkaline Wash is better for removing facial hair as it will improve the skin texture and colour at the same time. If waxing causes the areas to go darker, Alkaline Wash will lighten the area being depilated. If you suffer from ingrown hairs or folliculitis, it will eradicate this concern and prevent reoccurrence. Alkaline Wash weakens hair growth and over time drastically reduces it.
Q. Will the treatment stimulate the hair?
A. No, as the Alkaline Wash treatment has a dissolving and damaging effect on the hair follicle it is impossible to stimulate the hair growth. At last a pain free treatment for problem fine downy facial hair.
Q. What are the benefits of Alkaline Wash?
- The treatment is pain free
- Large areas can be removed in one treatment
- Ideal for people who are not suitable for waxing or electrolysis
- Works well when combined with electrolysis
- Can lead to permanent hair removal
Q. What are the After Care Instructions for an Alkaline Wash Treatment?
- Do not sunbathe or use a sun bed for 48 hours.
- Do not apply make up to the area for 12 hours.
- Use the Seba E after care oil and Contraderm Crème at home.
- If redness or heat occurs apply ice or natural yoghurt.
- Must wear Transdermal Sunblock during the day beneath the make up to protect the skin from pigmentation.
- Make sure to have ALWAYS 3-4 weeks rest period before or after a sunny holiday when you book for an Alkaline Wash treatment.
Acne
Q. I have congestion all over my face, some are cystic. Would the professional treatments make me break out more?
A. This will depend on what your prescribed treatment involves. If you have a lot of underlying congestion, the only way for the matter within the pores to be removed is through the pores of the skin. The longer it resides there, the more damage that is likely to occur, e.g. Scarring and trauma induced pigmented spots, due to prolonged inflammation. It is quite possible to break out during your treatments, but with time this will subside and an ongoing maintenance program will ensure long term results. I would advise that you wear a make up that has a mineral base with no oils and talc, so not to acerbate the condition.
Q. I’m 35 but I’m still breaking out like a teenager, how can I get rid of it?
A. The presence of acne later in life is a growing concern among adults. Stress and lifestyle are believed to be some of the contributing factors to the rise in the prevalence of this condition. Danné has a treatment program that is beneficial in the treatment of acne. This program consists of both professional treatments and home prescriptives.Your technician will be able to recommend the best advice and provide the solution that aids in topically and internally improving your skin condition.
Age Management
Q. I have fine lines around my lip area from smoking. Do you have any treatment that will reduce the appearance of this condition?
A. Fine lines in the peri-oral area can be treated with a series of professional treatments, to be used in conjunction with the appropriate home prescriptives. Alkaline wash swells, softens and dissolves. By softening the dead cells we have the ability to gently revise the area. The skin will be smoother, and you will have the appearance of a more youthful complexion.
Q. I’ve got these wrinkles on my forehead and around my eyes. I never used to have them until the last few weeks. I don’t like wearing sunblock because I like to get a tan. How can I erase these wrinkles?
A. Firstly, it is important to wear sunblock EVERY DAY, as for the most part it is the best anti-aging tool one has. To revise fine lines and wrinkles resurfacing treatments are needed. During this the skin may become photosensitive and therefore it is imperative to wear sun block. Wrinkles are more visible and fine lines can occur due to a build up of dead cell material. Removing these dead keratinised cells that sit on the surface of the skin is the first step in revising this condition.
Your home prescriptives will aid in this removal. The removal of wrinkles is quite difficult as they are commonly brought about by small muscle contractions through expression. These wrinkles cannot be removed unless the muscle is paralysed. Though, if these wrinkles are present on the face whilst relaxed then by resurfacing the skin and improving the structural integrity of the skin so in optimal condition it allows the skin to bounce back into place. A common advanced resurfacing tool that will resurface through the upper epidermal tissue whilst improving the structural integrity of the skin is the Pro Alpha Six Layer Peel. This treatment has the ability to revise fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation. Smoothing the skin and stimulating collagen and elastin to improve the structural integrity of the skin, hence the condition of the skin so it will bounce back into place.
Hair Removal/ Ingrown Hairs/ Folliculitis
Q. I have to shave every day, but I get terrible spots and it leaves my skin feeling sensitive. Do you have any products or treatments that can help with this?
A. Alkaline wash is a great resurfacing tool and can also be used for hair removal. The solution sits on the skin and dissolves the hair gently, without causing any pain or irritation to the skin. The long term benefit of alkaline wash treatment is that hair growth will reduce after a session of treatments.
Home prescriptives:
Hydra Louffa body wash would also be ideal to use on the skin in the shower and is ideal for sensitive skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, and folliculitis.
Maximum Moisture, the DANNÉ body lotion is a Transdermal crème that delivers water into the skin, leaving it hydrated all day long.
DMK efa+ will aid to improve the moisture content and the condition of the skin internally.
Pigmentation
Q. I have freckles – do you have any treatment that can get rid of them?
A. We have many forms of professional removal systems that help to reduce pigmented cells. These professional treatments include alkaline wash, DANNÉ Pro Alpha Six Layer Peel and Prozyme treatments. The condition is then maintained by using the Danné Home Prescriptives that are designed to inhibit further melanin production.
These products are: Direct Delivery Vitamin C Serum, Melanoplex Crème, Super Bright, and Transdermal Sunblock. You can browse these products in our Products Section. For your information, Danne Home Prescriptives are NOT SOLD via our website, as you need to have a consultation with our Danne Therapist to assess your skin condition and your skin’s needs at the time.
Q. I was left with a “pregnancy mask” after I had my first child. They said it would go away, but it is still present after 9 months. What options do I have?
A. This passive form of pigmentation has been induced by internal hormonal conditions that can appear in different layers of the skin, and as a result can be difficult to treat. Never the less the condition can be improved.
A technician will recommend the appropriate in-clinic treatments. The program established is dependant upon several key factors which will be discussed during the consultation. These key factors include: age, skin colour, medication, sun exposure etc.
Q. I have developed freckles after taking the contraceptive pill. Why do I still have them after I have discontinued taking them?
A. The pill causes photosensitivity of the skin and for this reason it is very important for you to wear a SPF30+ sunscreen on a daily basis to protect your skin. The freckles that you can see are your body’s own defence system, designed to protect you from the UV rays.
Unfortunately they do not just go away on their own. It is very important that you attain a thorough skin analysis from a qualified DANNÉ Technician who will prescribe the appropriate professional treatment and home care.
Q. I have patches of pigmentation on my face, I have tried many different creams on the market and nothing has worked. What should I do?
A. Rubbing a cream on the face alone will not rid your skin of pigmentation. As creams work on a superficial level, they have limitations and only have the ability to lighten and brighten the upper layers of the skin. For the most part the creams that are commonly available to the market place contain a bleaching agent and are simply doing just that; whitening the skin by bleaching it. To target the pigment in the deeper dermal layers in-clinic treatments are necessary. This will enable the pigment trapped in the deeper levels of the skin to be treated, effectively targeting pigmentation at the source, which is advised in order to achieve long term results.
Rosacea
Q. I’ve heard that you can have vein cauterization done to reduce the appearance of broken capillaries. I am petrified of needles. Do you have any treatment that is not as invasive that will actually work?
A. Rosacea cannot be cured but it can be controlled. An effective treatment in conjunction with home maintenance products will dramatically reduce the symptoms and signs of Rosacea. Danné treatments and home prescriptives are effective and pain free.
It is important to remember home care and professional treatments work hand-in-hand when treating any skin condition. Not one product or treatment will cure a condition. The DANNÉ red vein treatment does not work on the same basic principles as your beauty therapy style facials that focus on calming the skin in an attempt to reduce redness. Danné Rosacea treatments get to the core of the problem and address all the contributing factors that cause Rosacea. For a treatment to effectively improve Rosacea it must be able to deal with the skin as a whole system. Unique Characteristics and benefits of the Danné Red vein Rosacea skin revision treatments:
- Bacterial fighting agents work immediately to kill bacteria and also the Demodex mite.
- Reduces inflammation, heat and swelling in the skin.
- Re-establishes the skin’s barrier defence lines.
- Enhances the skin’s functioning, boosts the function of the immune system of the skin, increasing the skin’s resilience.
- Strengthens the skin’s structures.
- Encourages repair and restoration of cellular integrity.
- A stronger healthier skin is able to hold water and has a better defence system that is less likely to inflame.
Q. I have very sensitive skin and my face is always red. I’ve noticed I’m starting to get these broken capillaries around my nose and cheeks. What should I do?
A. If your skin is sensitive and your capillaries have become more noticeable, your skin and underlying structures need to be strengthened. With a series of professional treatments and the appropriate home prescriptives, the overall condition of your skin will be revised. The skin will become stronger, plumper, less reactive, and the flushed appearance that your complexion presents will be eliminated. For optimal results the use of DMK efa+ supplements is recommended. Containing Omega 3 fatty acids, a key ingredient to rebuild the skins immunity and maintain its structural integrity.
Scarring
Q. I have had three children and have worked very hard to get back in shape. Unfortunately for me I have very bad stretch marks. Can your products help?
A. Stretch marks are scarring on a dermal level. They aren’t superficial and are located deep within the skin tissue. For this reason we cannot remove a stretch mark, though we can treat this type of scarring and definitely improve the appearance and feel of the area, through resurfacing the damaged tissue and rebuilding the skin. Firstly we look at preparing the skin with Retosin (vitamin A crème) in conjunction with our Direct Delivery Vitamin C Serum. Internal supplementation in the form of essential fatty acids (DMK efa+) will also aid in improving the condition of the skin. The area is then resurfaced using Alkaline Wash, which dissolves the scar tissue. Enzyme therapy is then performed to help strengthen the tissue and aid in healing and repair of the area. This treatment is performed every four to six weeks. A number of treatments are needed depending on the severity of the stretch marks and tissue repair. We have found this treatment very effective in minimizing the appearance of stretch marks, firming and smoothing the area. Working to re-damage the tissue and rebuild the area with the best possible repair system for optimal results.
Q. I’ve just had a mole removed from my shoulder, its left me with a very big scar, is there any treatment I can do to revise it?
A. The most effective treatment for scarring begins by removing the scar tissue. This process involves a series of professional treatments using the resurfacing tool, alkaline wash. The area will become smoother, flatter, and less obvious. The rebuilding of new tissue is performed with the DANNÉ enzyme therapy, which is a treatment masque that is placed on the skin after the alkaline wash treatment. The process works to enhance the condition of the skin for optimal healing.
Saggy Skin
Q. I am fifty years of age and I have been told I have great skin for my age. Though I have noticed a loss of firmness, especially around my jowls, I am not interested in anything too invasive. Please let me know if you have an alternative?
A. The DANNÉ A-Lift is a 12 week program that involves weekly treatments and daily home prescriptives. This non-surgical face lift has no down time and is pain free! The Muscle banding treatments involved in this program have been designed to act as a work out for the skin, stimulating the area to lift and tighten sagging muscles. The enzymatic masque applied stimulates muscle regeneration by creating a passive muscle contraction. It also has the ability to oxygenate the tissue, and stimulate collagen production. This non surgical face lift uniquely re-builds and re-stores youth to aged skin.
Open Pores
Q. I’ve got very oily skin and I used to have acne. I used to squeeze blackheads all the time when I was younger which left me with very big pores, how can I minimize them?
A. Firstly the pore serves a function to the skin and therefore can never be closed. The area can be refined and strengthened so that the pore appears less visible. If it is clogged you will need to remove the excess hardened sebum and dead cell debris .The area can then be refined to reduce the appearance of the pore. Professional treatments will aid in the removal process. At home you can use the DANNÉ pore reduction drops. Unlike other astringents that strip the skin of natural oils, it is a chemical ionized solution that carries premium herbal properties to allow pores to minimize naturally.

Microdermabrasion Treatment
At The Beauty Therapy Room, we use the Diamond Microdermabrasion Machine, unlike other establishments who use the Crystal Microdermabrasion Machine.
Q. What Is The Difference Between Crystal And Diamond Microdermabrasion?
A. The regular Crystal Microdermabrasion technology involves the use of a special, hand-held device that propels a high-speed flow of Aluminium Oxide crystals onto the skin. At the same time, the machine’s vacuum system sucks away dirt, dead cells and used crystals.
The Diamond Microdermabrasion system, on the other hand, replaces the micro-crystal flow with a disposable or reusable diamond tip wand. Areas closer to the eyes and mouth can be abraded more accurately with diamond abrasion (no risk of stray crystals causing damage or being ingested). Other than that, crystal-free microdermabrasion works in the same way traditional microdermabrasion does. Diamond Microdermabrasion machines usually come with tipped wands of varied size and coarseness for different skin types and depths of resurfacing. The wand tip is made of natural diamond chips which polish the skin and remove dead cells, which are then vacuumed back into a waste filter. The Beauty Therapy Room uses natural diamond tips because they are easier to control and don’t irritate the skin (natural minerals are less likely to trigger adverse reactions).
Q. Does Microdermabrasion Help Even Out Red Marks?
A. By removing the top layer of the skin, Microdermabrasion diminishes or even removes superficial red marks. Deeper red marks require a more invasive procedure, like a deep chemical peel or laser skin resurfacing.
Q. Does Microdermabrasion Help Young Women?
A. Microdermabrasion is safe for young women (and men) of all skin types. If younger than 18 years od age, we need the permission of parents or guardian. The results may depend on the hormonal changes in their body during that period of the growth.
Q. How Can Microdermabrasion Make Stretch Marks Improve?
A. Stretch marks appear on your skin as uneven skin tone and texture. By exfoliating the outermost layer of the skin, microdermabrasion evens out skin tone and texture, thus reducing or totally removing stretch marks depending on the condition, age and depth of the stretch marks.
Q. Can Microdermabrasion Cause Age Spots?
A. No, microdermabrasion cannot cause age spots.
Q. Is Microdermabrasion Good On The Eye Lids?
A. Diamond Microdermabrasion can be used on the bottom eye-lids as well as on the brow area using the small and less coarse wand special for small and delicate areas. It allows the exfoliation of the dead skin cells in those areas as well as ironing out the expression lines or wrinkles.
Q. Does Microdermabrasion Make Skin Complexion Less Visible?
A. This procedure exfoliates the top layer of skin which consists of dead skin cells. Microdermabrasion stimulates collagen production, essential to healthy skin and also removes blotchy skin texture and tone.
Q. Who Is The Right Candidate For Microdermabrasion?
A. The right candidate for Microdermabrasion is anyone over 16 who wants to get rid of superficial acne scars, blotchy skin, large pores, age or sun spots, fine wrinkles or uneven skin tone and texture. All skin types and colors can be treated with microdermabrasions. But if you are pregnant, nursing or suffering from a chronic skin disease, or have been on Accutane or had laser surgery recently, consult with a specialist before having this treatment.
Q. How Can Microdermabrasion Make Hyperpigmentation Fade?
A. Microdermabrasion works on hyperpigmentation. The diamond tip abrades the top layer of the skin where unevenly pigmented skin cells are stuck. Several sessions of microdermabrasions are required to even out skin tone and reduce hyperpigmentation.
Q. Is Microdermabrasion Good?
A. In salon Microdermabrasion is good on superficial skin imperfections. But like with most non-surgical procedures, the results depend on your medical and skin condition, your body’s ability to recover. Most patients who have tried microdermabrasion say the procedure was effective in reducing fine lines, age spots, enlarged pores, acne scars, red marks, stretch marks and dull skin. More severe or deep skin imperfections cannot be improved with this non-invasive technique, because it only exfoliates the top layer of the skin, not being able to reach deeper layers of skin. More specialised treatments need to be incorporated or done after few sessions of Microdermabrasion, such as Skin Revision Peels from Danne to work on the deeper layer of the skin and reduce more the skin imperfections. Best to consult the Danne Aestheticienne to get a much informed explanation about how these two treatments can work together to get the best results desired.
Q. Does Microdermabrasion Work For Pimple Scars?
A. By removing the top layer of skin, Microdermabrasion evens out skin texture and helps improve superficial pimple scars. Deeper pimple scarring needs more invasive non-surgical techniques, like deep chemical peeling or laser facial resurfacing.
Q. Is Microdermabrasion Dangerous If I Have African and Asian Skin?
A. Microdermabrasion treatment is appropriate for all skin colours (including African & Asian skin) because this procedure exfoliates only the outermost skin layer which is made of dead skin cells. There’s no damage to live tissue which could cause scarring or severe irritation. The exfoliation process involved in microdermabrasion helps the skin renew itself quicker and more effectively.
Q. Does Microdermabrasion Make Sun Spots Go Away?
A. Microdermabrasion removes the outermost layer of the skin by exfoliating it with the Diamond Head wand and sucking the dead cells into the filter. During the procedure, part of the pigment is physically eliminated and, at the same time, collagen production is stimulated so that your skin regains its density and elasticity. After 6 to 12 microdermabrasions treatments, smaller sun spots are removed while larger ones fade significantly.
Q. Can You See A Difference After The First Microdermabrasion?
A. Yes, results are visible after the first Microdermabrasion, especially if we are talking about professional microdermabrasion which is more effective than at-home sets. Best results are obtained after 6 to 12 sessions (depending on your expectations and severity of skin imperfections).
Q. How Deep Can Microdermabrasion Go?
A. Microdermabrasion abrades the outer layer of the skin (about 10-20 microns of skin cells). This layer is only made of dead skin cells which is why this procedure is not considered to be invasive.
Q. How Can Microdermabrasion Help Restore Skin Complexion?
A. This procedure exfoliates the top layer of skin which consists of dead skin cells. Microdermabrasion stimulates collagen production, essential to healthy skin and also evens out skin texture and tone.
Q. How Good Is Microdermabrasion On Your Body?
A. Microdermabrasion systems can be used on the body and on the limbs too, as it has special microdermabrasion body tool. Using it on those areas Microdermabrasion exfoliates the hard dead skin cells and stimulates the circulation as well as the fibroblasts to reproduce the collagen and elastin in the skin. It is best to be done in salon where the specialist therapist can work on those areas where it is needed. A serious of session would be necessary to achieve the best results.
Q. Can You Go To Work After Microdermabrasion?
A. Yes, you can return to work immediately after having Microdermabrasion. The mild redness on your skin will disappear in a few hours. The specialist therapist will have applied the necessary after care prescriptives as well as you will be advised on the home care which is vital to maintain and protect the skin after such procedure. These home care products would be like rich moisturisers in Vitamin C to strengthen the immune system and a transdermal sunblock to be worn every day to protect the skin from further pigmentation.
Q. Is Microdermabrasion Effective For Men?
A. Men can have microdermabrasion just as women can. The procedure and results are the same; there are no side effects or risks. The procedure is the same entirely for men and women as well as the home after care. Men need to look after their skin in the same way as the women do.
Q. Is Microdermabrasion Good For Acne Scarring?
A. By removing the top layer of the skin, professional microdermabrasion diminishes or even removes superficial acne scarring. Deeper acne scarring requires a more invasive procedure, like a deep chemical peel or laser skin resurfacing.

Microcurrent Facial Toning Treatment
Q. Just how does microcurrent facial toning work?
A. To understand that, we first need to understand what causes our facial skin to wrinkle and sag. As we age, our muscles become accustomed to certain expressions and tend to “stick” in these positions. A great example of this is the furrow between the eyebrows that many people get. At the same time, other muscles in our face are hardly ever used, and they begin to waste away, which leads to sagging. An example of this can often be seen around our jaw lines, chins and necks where we tend to develop sagging or loss of definition as we get older.
Microcurrent facial toning machines sends safe, painless impulses to the muscles in your face that help overly-tightened muscles to relax and help under worked muscles to regain strength. In essence, microcurrent facial toning “re-educates” the facial muscles and restores them back almost to their original shape.
When this happens the visible results are quite dramatic and the face is lifted, firmed and toned back to a much more youthful appearance. At the same time, the microcurrent improves the blood circulation to your face which stimulates production of collagen, improves tone and texture, and improves or eliminates fine lines.
Besides the fact that it really works, one of the things that makes microcurrent facial toning so popular is that most people see visible results after just a single treatment. This gives “instant gratification” which is seen so rarely as a result of other anti-aging products or techniques. In fact, the results are so noticeable that if you only treat half your face one time you can see a visible difference between the half you treated and the half you didn’t.
Q. How many do sessions do you need?
A. To start you will need to have a consultation with the therapist to establish your skin’s condition and its needs. Then a suitable program of treatments will be tailored to suit these needs and they will be discussed with you at the time of the consultation along with the after care prescriptives which are essential to maintain the results at home.
Microcurrent facial toning is cumulative as well, which means that the more treatments you have, the more improvement you will see in your face. The treatments last for about one hour including a mini facial, and they cost of an average £80 per treatment. Most people get a minimum of 12 treatments to get their desired results.
Although microcurrent facial toning is the current “buzzword” in anti-aging, the technology is not new. It has over 50 years of historical data and clinical trials that back up its anti-aging benefits. That’s great piece of mind that shows not only will it work, but also that it is safe and does not have long term side effects.
Microcurrent facial toning is a great alternative to getting a face lift since it is non-invasive, does not require any recovery time, gives instant results, and does not have the same potential for harmful complications as surgery does.
