What is a Facial?
A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin to promote clear, well-hydrated skin. A facial is the second most popular salon or spa treatment after massage. It is sometimes called a “deep-cleansing facial” or “relaxing” facial because of extractions.
The Basic Steps of a Facial
•Skin Analysis. The aesthetician looks at your skin through a brightly lit magnifying lamp that reveals various skin conditions. A general medical and skin history is taken down with any other information needed to establish the causes of the skin’s condition and to devise the best treatment regime which suits every client’s needs.
•Cleansing. A facial begins with a cleansing with cotton pads or sponges and a product chosen for your skin type (normal, dry, oily, combination, sensitive, mature.)
•Exfoliation using a mechanical or chemical exfoliant. Mechanical exfoliation has a gritty texture and usually happens while a steam vapour is directed at your face or hot towels placed on the face and neck. A chemical peel can be a stand-alone treatment or part of the facial. It is generally an “upgrade” and done in a series and we perform these types of peels with the Specialised Danné Facials.
•Extraction of blackheads or whiteheads if you want it and need it. (It can cause broken capillaries and discoloration if done on sensitive skin, or done improperly.) People have different pain tolerance for extractions. They can be uncomfortable, especially on thin or ruddy skin. Hence we try to avoid them as much as possible in order not to bruise or harm the skin, and we use very professional products which can work with great efficiency, safety and superb results.
•Facial massage using classic strokes like effleurage to both relax you and stimulate your skin and facial muscles.
•A facial mask targeted to your skin type (dry, oily, combination, sensitive, mature) and condition. During that time, if no other treatments are required, the client is left to unwind and relax and for the skin to receive all the effects from the facial mask. A relaxing music helps the client to enjoy these few minutes by meditating or just by going into a relaxing sleep.
•Removal of Facial Mask and the application of toners and protective creams.
• To finish the treatment, advice on home skin care and maintenance procedure will be given as well as the reschedule of another facial in the very near future.
Who Gives A Facial?
A professional facial should be given by a licensed aesthetician with special training in skin care. They are also called beauty therapists.
How Much Does a Facial Cost?
The prices for our facials are quoted in the “Price List” Page of the General Cleansing & Relaxing Facials.
How Often Should I Get A Facial?
It varies from person to person. Ideally, a facial monthly is good for the skin because that’s how long it takes the skin to regenerate. If for any other reasons you cannot have a monthly facial, then try to have a facial at least four times a year, as the season changes. You may need it more frequently if you are trying to clear up a case of acne, especially at the beginning. Otherwise, once a month is plenty. Usually a course of 6 facials is a good initiative to look after your skin and to keep the facials ongoing with the provision of a good and professional home care regimen to maintain the skin’s condition when not in the salon.
